Hi:
An end user cannot use the conventional means of upgrading to the latest version of GP and must conduct a direct "table to table" copy of data from the production SQL to the test SQL server instead of using GP Utilities.
In other words, we're going to need to copy "transaction tables" of each module from the old to the new servers.
This is because their databases have corrupt data brought on by obsolete code of programmers that are no longer with that company.
Are there any issues with conducting this sort of copying of data? Will SQL Linked Servers need to be set up?
Thanks!
John
Hello John,
We strongly recommend against doing any manual upgrades without the assistance of GP Utilities.
There are a lot of checks and validations that occur during the upgrade process that you will be skipping, and there is a massive chance that something, somewhere, will get missed.
Richard's recommendation is the way to go. Clean up a test company, and see if that upgrades successfully.
You are talking about a tremendous amount of work here. How will they determine what is good and what is not? May I suggest creating a test company and cleaning up that database and then upgrading the test company? There are hundreds if not thousands of table linkages and indexes and triggers. Sure it can be done but they better have deep pockets and enlist the help of a consultant with extensive knowledge of GP databases.
