Modified Date in CRM

I'm new to CRM and am having to learn the software largely on my own at work.  I've been requested to provide a view that reflects the created and modified dates for each job/record.  I had a salesman update his notes in each of his jobs but the modified date for the record did not change.  Are there only particular areas in which the modified date is signaled to update based on what activity took place within the record?  What fields does a record need updated for the modified date to change?

I'm using Microsoft Dynamics 365 - Custom (for our sales team)

Yes.  Make a new field called something like "Note Created" on the Opp form (maybe an integer field you can increment).  Then make a workflow that runs whenever a Note is created that alters the "Note Created" field in some way.  That will "modify" they Opportunity to show that work has been done recently, even if that work was only to add a note.

Thank you Wayne.  What the objective is: My manager wants evidence by date that an opportunity in CRM is being updated consistently (regardless of what field is being touched), that it's being managed by the sales person.  Can you suggest a different approach to this objective that would satisfy this need?

Wayne thank you for your explication ! sure that's why i specify in my answer all fields "in the form" :) if you  update the related entity the modified on is not updated :)

    RE: Modified Date in CRM

To clarify Ramzi, if you add a Note to a record you are not modifying the record itself.  For example.  If you are on an opportunity and you change the estimated value of the Opp and save, the Modified On field will also get updated.  However, if you go to the Notes area and add a new Note, it's a separate entity that is "just" related to the Opportunity.  So the Note's Modified On field will be changed, but not the Opportunity's.

When you update any field in the form, the modifiedon field will be updated also.

What fields are considered "value of the record" fields other than the actual "value" field itself?

    Hi,

You have Out of the box fields like : modifiedon and modifiedby.

This fields are updated when you change any value of the record and you save it.
