Blocking access to a field on a menu item

Hello,

I just got an interesting request from my team that I've been trying to solve and I haven't been able to, I'm not even sure if it's possible to do it this way. Here is what I need to do. I need to create a new role that will block access to a certain field on a certain menu item, so if this role is given to a user who currently has access to the said  menu item and the said field, it will take the access away from that field but leave the access to the menu item. Is this possible to do or do I need a different approach to this issue? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

What issue do you think to face, in case if you consider to use Override permissions for that specific field with that new Security Role?

    Hi Sohaib,

I just don't know how to create a role that overrides access to a field on a form that the user already has access to.

    Hi Crispin,

Thank you for those links, I'm looking into them now.

What I'm looking for is, I have one form that bunch of users have access to and I want to create a role that will be added to these user's roles and will prevent them from accessing a specific field on this form that they have full access to. Is this possible?

What I'm trying to take away access from is not a field and it's not a menu item, it's a button on that form so it doesn't exist on any table. Also, I dont want to take the access away from everyone, just some individuals, so I dont want to disable it globally, just for users who have that specific role.

    Hi Mariam Tsilosani,

If this is menu item button you can remove access to menu item for specific user role. If this is just a button you can set "NeedPermission" property to "manual" on the button and you will be able to use "Override permissions" feature to remove access to it for specific role as well.

    Hi Ievgen,

Thank you for your suggestion, that really helped farther my process. I came across another issue while following your instructions thouhg. So, I did set the "NeedPersmission" property of the field to "manual" and that made it so no role would have access to that field unless I specified it so which is good.

Now I have two roles, role #1 that has "NoAccess" on that field's properties and role #2 that has "Delete" access on that field's properties. I have people who have role #2 (so delete access to the said field) and I want to give some of this people role #1 to take away the access from that field.

What I have noticed is that "Delete" access trumps the "NoAccess". Is there a way to reverse that? So have a role that takes away the access to something that already has access?

    Thank you,

    Mariam

    Hi Mariam,

Thats the way how AX security works, you will get max level of access that any of your roles have. To overcome this issues you need to create new role that will have required security and give it to that user.

    Hi Ievgen,

I figured that's what I would need to do. thank you very much for your help, finding out about the "NeedPermission" property really helped.

    Best,

    Mariam
