Fixed Asset Dimensions over PO dimensions

HI All

Thanks for reading. Some trouble we are having with Dimensions, we are being asked to amend the system to allow for Fixed asset Dimensions to override the Purchase order dimensions is this possible from a simple setup perspective, or would this require a code change?

Hope this is simple enough any questions fire them at me.

Kind Regards

Just to elaborate on this, if we dont use Fixed assets for PO's  but then start to, would that overide other Dimensions

    Hi AX.Support.TA,

Can you let us know some more details on your process?

Do you create and/or acquire fixed assets through purchase orders?

Do you setup the fixed assets first and assign the financial dimensions at the fixed asset value model level before you post the vendor invoice?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig

Thanks for the reply, I think in general the users currently type the dimensions in manually or they are pulled from Main Accounts.

We currently do not Create FA's through purchase Orders.

Fixed assets are setup through the FA Module, However not really knowing much about them I am not sure where they are being used.

    Does that help at all

    Thanks

    Martin

    Hello Martin,

Can you find out what your colleagues setup when they create fixed assets in the FA module?

If they are setting up the fixed assets first and assign a financial dimension at the fixed asset value model level, any financial dimension that is entered when posting the fixed asset invoice will not have an effect on the fixed asset transactions as the financial dimensions from the value model will - so to say - overwrite what you setup in the invoice journal.

If, on the other hand side, no financial dimension is setup at the fixed asset value model level, the financial dimensions that are recorded in the invoice journal are inherited to the fixed asset value model and the transactions generated.

That's why it is important to find out what your colleagues are doing when setting up fixed assets and posting the fixed asset invoices.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

Perfect Ludwig, that sounds pretty much like the answer that I need I can go and find out and come back to you. I didn't see any in Value model so until Can see otherwise I can safely assume that there are non and that is why they do no overwrite the Journal Dimensions.

    Thanks

    Martin.

Also Sorry just to Clarify - If they dont use Fixed assets or Work Orders or Projects on the Purchase order it will of course not take the Fixed assets dimensions into account, Can now see some of these Fixed assets do have Dimensions but do not get used on Orders on the FA Tab.

    Hi Martin,

I did not get your last question. Can you elaborate on that?

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig

Sorry what I mean is. The users do not create PO's with Assets on them so there is Zero chance of the Purcahse orders posting with the Fixed asset dimensions.

I was also able to see one line in the Value model Group so they do have something setup.

    Thanks Ludwig.

    Hi Martin,

If there is something else open, please continue posting to this thread. Otherwise, it would be great if you could verify and close this thread.

    Many thanks,

    Ludwig
