How to add portal comment section in web portal

Posted on by 40

I'm new to crm dynamics365, i want to be able to display a comment section under my cases in the web portal side.

portal comments work fine on the crm side (in the timeline)

but it doesn't display on the web portal, my question is how do i add the comment section to the web portal ?

i'm looking for a way to communicate to the customer using comments and not email.

    Hi Kechi,

I am aware that you have posted this question a couple of years ago however I have found the solution to this issue. Props to www.engineeredcode.com/.../power-apps-portals-notes-vs-timeline-metadata-timeline-metadata-deep-dive for this solution.

    Issues with Default tab Setting

If you’re setting up the Timeline metadata on a custom entity, and you just can’t get it to display on the Portal, try changing the Default tab option to something other than Activities, and then change it back.

The Portal code looks at the configuration in the form XML to see if the setting for the Default tab is Activities. When you add the Timeline control to the form, Activities is the default option, and so you see it in the dropdown. My theory is that since it’s the default option, that the value isn’t saved back to the form XML unless a change is made. So to force it to actually save Activities as the Default tab, switch it to something else, save, and then switch it back.

How conveniently the solution was plagiarized by the Microsoft Support staff. Would have been better had you given the credits to Megan Walker's blog.

    My steps are as follows:

    1. Entity Form I’m using

    pastedimage1590397713687v1.png

There’s three timelines created for different websites, I am using the customer self-service website (to display my comment section on the web portal site)

    pastedimage1590397819114v3.png

    2. After adding the timeline I created the two entity permissions.

    Hi there,

I don't see a timeline conversation tab under my form editor.

This is my layout for the website - edit a case page (where i want communication with the user to display)

    Hello,

    Yes, off course.

In the Dynamics 365 open the form editor and double click in the Conversation Tabs field in the Timeline section.

Click in the Web Client Properties sections and in the Default Tab set Tab option to Posts.
