Custom Report/Power BI report on Core HR entities

Posted on by 180

Hello guys,

I need to create few custom reports for HR users. For example one leave and absence report to chase up.

As I read somewhere we can create Power BI report based on CDS or BYOD connection and integrate report with Power Apps. And then power App can be embedded in HR. But can anyone share step by step details of how this can be achieved and what will be the licensing requirement associated?

Thanks. Regards,

    Hi Kevin,

I followed the steps to add my power app in HR. It is added successfully but it does not show where I added. See below steps i followed:

    1. Go to Personnel management > Links > Workers > Employees.

    2. On the page's Action Pane, on the Options tab, in the Personalize group, select Personalize this page.

    The personalization toolbar appears.

    3. On the toolbar, select Add an app from Power Apps.

    4. select the Employment Details area, provide app information on right side pane and click Insert.

The App link/report name does not show in Employment Details area in Worker action pane. Instead I can see my App in Power App button list. Am i missing something here? How can I place my power app report in action pane or preferably on Home page so HR users can see it when they login. Also, note that if i launch my app from power button it does not show on full screen rather displaying in right side of the screen in smaller size.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks. Regards,

RE: Custom Report/Power BI report on Core HR entities

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks. I managed to create a report in Power BI. I then created one power App and embedded the report in it. The App works fine. Now I have to import/embed power App in HR, how to do that? This is what I tried so far.

    1. On Home page I created one container and called it Reports.

    2. When I open the container there is no option to add power APP.

Is there any way to add power APP on this page? Thanks.

    1. Create a Power BI report using the Common Data Service connector:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/common-data-service/data-platform-powerbi-connector

    2. BYOD need your own Microsoft Azure SQL database. Once data is in your BYOD database, connect PowerBI to this database get records.

    Bring your own database (BYOD):https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/analytics/export-entities-to-your-own-database

    3. Another option is use OData, but it is not recommended to have large data volume. While Common Data Service and the OData implementation provided by Common Data Service (through the Dynamics 365 Web API) is preferred over the Human Resources data service, the Human Resources data service currently has more complete entity coverage for the Human Resources data.
