Project Financial Dimension

We have a requirement to have projects as a financial dimension. The values for this dimension are automatically created when a new project is created.

We also have a requirement for a specific purpose to be able to add a value to the project dimension that is a custom value (ie not created in the Projects subledger). Is there a way to have a financial dimension called projects that either

- Has a new value added to it when a now project is created  OR

-Can have a new value added to it  by simply adding a value in the financial dimensions form.

Thanks for any advice re this

    Hi Simon,

You can create a new financial dimension and set the  the "Use values from" to "Project".

This will automatically create a new financial dimension value whenever a new project is created.

Thanks. But if we do this we will not be able to add additional values to this dimension that are not created in the projects module?

    Hello Simon,

You cannot add an additional dimension value to a financial dimension that automatically takes the values from projects.

What you can do in my opinion is (a) create a second financial dimension probably called 'project special' that is a custom dimension and allows you entering the values you want. Alternatively, another field that is used in the ledger voucher - for example - a reason code might do the job as well.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Simon,

I agree with Ludwig that you need to create a new custom dimension to add the manual values.

    Thanks,

    Sheela

    Hi Simon Smith,

As per dynamics D365 logic, if Project dimension is created (Modular dimension) then we cannot add manual values in it because it takes an information from Project Module that bascially make sense. In order to add manual/custom values you have to create Custom dimension as also  suggested by ludwig and Sheela.
