Project Operations Task inconsistencies and setting complete

Posted on by 2,909

Hi all

Seeing a few issues with PO Lite with one of the being the status of Tasks.

Below is the same Project and tasks snippet taken at the same time, same user and same computer.

Task-2.png

I am also looking at easier ways to set a task complete. We will have lots of tasks that are more of a check off so no time is used it's just a check off however would be good to keep it in the Project task area.

Can we make the %Complete editable in the Project Task form and mark to 100% or do we need to have some form of duration i.e. 5 minutes and have a plugin / flow create a time entry submit it and approve it?

It seems really clunky with so many non editable fields.

    Hi Antony,

The only way I have found of marking a task 100% complete is through the "Tracking" form on the Project. There you can change the "effort to complete" field to zero which then sets the task at 100%.

My solution is to use a Task/Work/Time entry PowerApp that can update this field if the user says the task is complete.

Agree it's a little clunky and could be made more user friendly, but I don't think this is a priority for the product team right now.

    Thanks

    Mark

Sadly Project Operations does not provide easy way to edit to change % complete. You can create Power automate flow to update the %complete by timesheet submission & Approval. We also using Power Automate flow to mark  %complete since our users are using different system for Timesheet management.

"Project for Web" allows to edit the %complete. It would be great if Microsoft provided a turn off Timesheet based task completion process.

Did you find a solution for this issue? Project Online and Desktop both have the ability to mark a project complete.  The way a task is completed (adding effort, then adding actual hours equal to) is very restrictive and assumes 1. you will always be estimating the effort of a task and 2. the actual effort and the estimated effort will always be equal which is not the case more often then not. I agree this seems really clunky and not very flexible.
