Nav 2009 native database performance problems

Hi all,

we have a Nav 2009 installation which uses native database service.

My company has 18 nav users. Actually database (.fdb file) is 60GB with an usage of 73%

We have constantly performance problems in every single operation (such as query or registration operations), even if we use client installed on server (I exclude network issue).

The machine is a non virtualized server with 24Gb ram, 12 core cpu and a raid5 disk system (150+GB free space). Actually Nav is the main running software.

Other info:

Cache DBMS 1000000kb

Cache commit: yes

Objects cache: 32000kb

Can we take some actions (actually we cannot migrate to sql :-( )?

Regards,

Alessandro

    Try to

Use Optimization to optimize the tables

Remove unwanted data from tables such as change log

    Check the customization

    Hello Amol,

    I'm grateful for your answer.

We have a discussion with our supplier. He told us that optimization is not safe because it could delete data.

    Could it be true? :-|

    Thank you.

My previous company had  250GB+ data on NAV v3.7 FDB database. As part of our maintenance, we do optimisation from NAV client and no one ever complained about any data loss. If you are not too sure, try the same on your test database.

Try increasing the database size by few GBs before optimisation. You can also identify high data tables like G/L entry, value entry, ILE etc and do optimisation when users are out of NAV.

Thank you Cecil, I will do tests asap.

    Another doubt,

this is a snapshot of process monitor of both nav server and sql server.

It's strange for me that ws private bytes are constantly to 7-8MB. It seems that process doesn't use avaiable memory. Is it correct?

    Thank you.

    Hi All,

I am facing same issue with you. My supplier recommended to delete the old entries of change log. But I am a newbie at NAVISION, so I dont know how to backup and delete the change log entries. Could you please help me the step by step to backup and delete the change log entries?

My Navision is 2009 R2 classic and using Native database.

    DNK,

Try cleaning change log entries as described here: navisionary.com/.../how-to-clear-change-log-table , perhaps it can reduce the database size.

    Anietorp,

There might be many ways of improving the performance of native database. Difficult to advice something special without knowing your details and level of customizations applied. What I can recommend for sure - there is a very good book by Jörg A. Stryk - www.stryk.info/fieldguide.html , and related info in his valuable blog. Highly recommended to study his advices.
