What is the field "Product Service Type" used for on a product and a released product?

In D365 for Finance and Operations, What is the field "Product Service Type" used for on a product or a released product?  It seems to be set when you first create the product, and inherited to the released product and cannot be changed once it is set.  The values are "Not Specified" and "Warranty".   Is this something new that came with the Armanino acquisition for Revenue Recognition perhaps?   I can't find any documentation about what this field does in the system.  I have found that you enable it in Feature Management with feature "Product service type" which has been available in at least preview since February 2020, or maybe before that.  This feature is associated with Product Information Management module.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Lynn,

Where do you see it, can you share screenshot. I don't see it in environment where RR is not turned on.

It is definitely enabled in Feature Management, so it has to be turned on with "Product service type" feature.  Here is where it is when creating a new released product.  Once I change the Product Type to be a Service, this field then becomes available.  WIth the new preview feature "Extended warranty feature' new with 10.0.10, enabled, I see a value for this field of "Warranty" on the dropdown list   (There are no 10.0.10 release notes out there for Supply Chain Management yet.)

    Hello Lynn,

10.0.10 still not general available yet, it doesn't have any official/unofficial documents for product service type at anywhere. But when I check code, mostly this field is referred to warranty products. I suppose this designed for adding warranty for products, you can check release wave plan 1 2020 for more information:

Thank you, Tony.  That was the detail I was looking for.  It appears that the "Product Service Type" feature that adds this field to the products and the "Extended Warranty Feature" which adds a value to the enum for this field, are a bit ahead of the schedule from the Commerce feature that will utilize this new master data, described in the link you provided for later preview in May 2020.
