Create a custom data entity using an XML/XSD file

Hi,

I have an XML file as well as an xsd file. How do I build a custom data entity using one of these two files? I just want to read the XML file into a temporary object/table, and join that table with a salesQuotationLine table with same primary key (itemId).

Thank you in advance,

TN.

That's not how it works. You build a data entity by selecting tables, field and so on in F&O and implement custom business logic if needed. No such a thing can generated from a data file.

If you want to import data that don't belong to any existing table, you can create a new one.

Nevertheless the best approach will be - as always - explaining your business requirement. Then we should be able to suggest a meaningful technical solution.

Then how to create that table using an XML/XSD file?

I am trying to create a sales quotation using an XML file, which has basic information like below.

We are reading it, get each item, match it to our inventory itemId, and use the length and weight field for each item in the XML file and assign them to length/ weight field for our corresponding inventory objects

If your goal is sales quotations, you should use (implement if necessary) an entity for sales quotations. You shouldn't be creating any table.

Nevertheless the file doesn't have a format that can be imported to F&O. I suggest using XSLT to transform it to a format matching the entity. Then you can configure an import project in data management to use this transformation.

    Hi Martin,

My requirement is to format a xml file based on schema in D365 data management.

Details - we are exporting data using an entity into xml format, now the other system for which the xml is exported requires it in xml but bit of formatting and not directly as how we get from data management export. I know there is some way to attach schema(in xslt) format for exporting data in xml file using data management but now sure how to achieve that. could you please help me with steps to do so.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dev

You can configure XSLT transformations in "source to staging" mapping.

You can see an example here: XSLT transformation in Dynamics 365 for operation.
