Master Plan Ignores Existing Production Order

Hi,

The master plan seems to be ignoring manually created production order and recreate duplicate production order.

At first I had created production order for a  finished goods.
Then I registered sales order and run a master plan.

My expectation is that the master plan should identify the exciting production order and hence the master plan should not create  a production order.

However, the observation is opposite to my expectation. The master plan ignores the existing production order and creates a production order as if there is no exiting production order.

Note: "Reserve ordered item" on inventory parameter is set to be ON.

I would greatly appropriate if you could suggest hints to resolve the issue above.

Sincerely,

ABTS

    Hi ABTS,

I believe AX behaves this way as following the manual creation of a production order, AX does not know what intent the production orders is to be used for.

When you run master planning, it is likely to have created an action message for you, suggesting to delete the new production order and use your existing order

    What scenario is this for?

It is easier to create the sales order and then run master planning which will create the production order for you :) or create a production order off of the sales line via product and supply

    Hope this helps

    Hi ABTS,

It all depends on your coverage group settings.

What do you have in the "negative days"/ "positive days" fields in your coverage group? However many days you have in these fields is how far forwards/backwards from your demand AX will look at your actual orders and ask to bring them back/forward to meet your demand if possible.

So as an example lets say you had a manual production order for completion on 1st January 2016 and you put a sales order to be delivered on the 15th December 2015.

With negative days set to 16 or above planning would take into account your manual production order and will not suggest a "duplicate" planned order. You would also have an action message against the works order to bring it back to 14th/15th December in order to satisfy your sales order on time.

If however your negative days is set to less than 16 then it will indeed give you a new planned order.

It works in the same way with positive days but using the example, if the sales order was 16 days after the production order then AX will look at the positive days field.

I.e Sales order was for the 17th January instead of 15th December.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Amar,

Could I ask you whether coverage group setting applies to WIP as well?

I have created production order manually for a WIP.

Then I registered a SO then conduct master planning.

AX seems to be ignoring existing manually created production order and creating extra production order pegged on the SO.

Is there a way to make AX master plan to recognise the existing manually created production order?

    Sincerely,

    ABTS
