MRP - Blocking inventory status creates demand

Hi all,

I found out something quite strange while running a master plan.

Situation: I have 100 units from Item A on "Blocking" inventory status. I have no forecast or sales orders. If I run a master plan for that item I will get a planned purchase / production order (dependes on the item supply type) for a demand of the "Inventory journal" type (I don't have any inventory journals pending to register either).

Has anybody faced this issue? Is it correct? Missing some setups?

Hope you can help me.

Something else that can cause this is the 'Nettable' flag on your disposition code, if this isn't ticked, then any batches with that code will be ignored by MRP.

This can be particularly 'interesting' if your default disposition code is set to 'Nettable,' as MRP will never see your physical inventory, and keep creating planned orders for the same demand.

RE: MRP - Blocking inventory status creates demand

Hi all, thanks for your answers.

I tried to replicate this behaviour on a CONTOSO environment and on my tests I found out what was happenning:

    1) Create an item with the following parameters and groups:

    08.JPG

    1682.02.JPG

    2) Adjust quantities on blocking inventory status:

    07.JPG

    3) Run master planning (no planned order were created). So I checked the net requirement for my item and found out the following:

    08.JPG

The "Inventory journal" demand actually exists. However, no planned order were created because the 100ea were considered as "on-hand".

So the problem I was having wasn't the "Inventory journal" demand but the units of my product which weren't considered as "available".

Why weren't they available? Because the batch was expired.

    4) So I changed the expiration date of my batch and activate my master plan to consider shelf life:

    09.JPG

    5) Re run master plan and I got a planned purchase order:

    3771.10.JPG

So at this situation, the "Inventory journal" could be thought as if the blocking status was creating the demand.

Thanks again and sorry about my mistake.

Is this item batch tracked?  And is your default batch disposition one that is not nettable?  Are your inventory blocks caused by quality orders that are created from product registrations, either purchase or production?  And your quality order updates the batch dispostion to one that is nettable?

That scenario will cause the situation you are describing.

If you remove the 100 units from inventory (adjust them off - in a test environment!), does AX create the same planned order?

    Hi NHNC,

What settings do you have for the coverage on that item? Can you elaborate on your MRP settings?

    Sounds mighty strange.

If you right click the reference and "view details"... Where does it take you?
