Item group vs. Financial dimension

Hi All,

I'm seeking the best way to pull the report using item and item group.

I'm thinking 2 options.  1st option is to use Item group.  2nd option is to use Financial dimension

Option 1:  Using Item group.  Let say I have 3 item groups.  All the Item group post to the same account.  There is no distinguishing in terms of GL posting between each item group.  I can just simply have one Item group named "All" and post all item to that group.  My question is, will I be able to pull the Item or Item group into Management Reporter (MR) to create Income Statement and Balance Sheet using filter Item and Item group?

Option 2:  using Financial dimension.  When posting a SO or PO or any transaction, I can use Item and Item group financial dimension and I know for sure it's in my GL.  When it's in my GL, I'm certain that I can pull it into my MR.  The disadvantage of this method is, it's too much data entry.  I have to fill out the financial dimension "Item" and "Item group" for every transaction that I post.

Does anyone have any suggestion for me?  Is there any better option?  Thanks

    Hi,

Elements from the inventory module are in general not available in management reporter for selection.

For that reason, option 1 won't work in my opinion unless you do your reporting with the help of a BI tool rather than with management reporter.

    Option2:

Why do you feel that there is too much data entry related with option 2?

If each item is linked to a specific item group and assuming that you never flip the item group an item is assigned to then you only need to item financial dimension.

The item financial dimension can be setup as a default in the released products form and will be inherited into your SO/PO.

So, there should be no need to enter something manually.

Does that make sense to your scenario/business process?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi,

Can you default any of the dimensions at the Item level? or It has to be selected at the time of transaction?
