Licence plate tracking in WMI (non-WHS) warehouses

Hi, we are looking to upgrade an AX2009 implementation that tracks manufactured product by pallet id. They don't want to use an Advanced warehouse - their warehouse is run by a 3PL - but they want pallet tracking for Quality management and Traceability.

I've discovered that if you enable WHS on an item the Licence plate tracking dimension is active, but it doesn't get written on to an inventory transaction in a WMI warehouse (see screenshot below).

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Thanks

Tim

I am not sure this makes sense for you -  for traceability even if only for physical tracking -  then maybe each pallet could be a serial within an order batch,  or each pallet be a unique batch.  You could then maybe record a pallet id number as a batch attribute.

    Hi Tim,

Whether to use Licence plates in a location is controlled by the setting 'Use licence plate tracking' on the Location profile. Since WMI warehouse locations cannot have a Location profile, it follows that they cannot be enabled for LPs.

I wonder what would happen if you set a dummy Location profile on a WMI location via the Table Browser....

Thanks for the replies. magic1949, we've talked about using batch and/or serial, but neither really gives a great solution - one of our customers doesn't want to use Advanced warehousing processes immediately on go-live, but might want to do that in the future, and then having WHS warehouses with Licence plates, and WMI warehouses without Licence plates will be a real pain.

Guy, yes we'd figured that that's why the system is blanking the Licence plate - it'd be nice to know if enabling it like that worked without problems.

Incidentally I logged this as a product suggestion in case anyone else out there thinks that this is a good idea:
