Hi,

AX: AX 2012 R3 CU8.

Reporting and SSAS server:  windows server 2012 R2.

SQL Server version: 2013 - SP1 + latest update.

I have installed reporting services on this machine with AX SSRS extension and AOS can connect to this machine and reports are working fine.

Issue:

I installed Analysis services on this machine with multidimensional mode and setup completed successfully. I installed the AX analysis extension successfully. I checked the analysis database in sql management studio and there was no database created.

I also checked the analysis server settings in AX and correct server name is added but database tab is blank.

I ran the analysis server wizard from AX to deploy cubes thinking that it might create the database but received below error.

Error: Unable to connect to the OLAP server name currently set as the default Please ensure that it is a valid OLAP server instance and that it is running. The value can be changed in the Analysis servers form.

So the question is that whether AX analysis database must be created when analysis extension were installed or these will be created when deploying the cube where above error is being thrown.

Any help will be appriciated.

Regards,
ND

    Issue resolved.

AX Client and  remote desktop service integration insalled on Reporting server.

AX ports opened on Reporting server.

Analysis server should have the connection provider as SQL Server native client 11.0

Above steps helped successfully install the Analysis service extension and deployment of cubes.

An old thread but want to give away my opinion.

The error message simply means ‘it cannot reach you SSAS Server’. Now coming to reason there can be many reason, such as for example.

    • Server name is not correct in AX Analysis service configuration form.

    • Port 2383 is not open SSAS machine. (this could be different port as well, by default 2383)

A simple test could be Telnet to Port of SSAS server name. Don’t forget to add role of Telnet client from server administration, if you haven’t done already 
