Access denied to field Packing duty license number (TaxLicenseNum) in table Customers (CustTable)

Hi. We recently upgraded to MS D365FO. We use the standard role of Sales man for some of the sales guys in our company.

They are facing this error "Access denied to field Packing duty license number (TaxLicenseNum) in table Customers (CustTable)" when trying to generate the pro-forma invoice or the sales invoice, neither of which have any customizations.

I searched the forum for this error but did not get a solution. I am the admin and I can generate the pro forma invoice / sales invoice just fine. To narrow it down a bit, I also figured out that the role "Accounts Receivable Manager" is able to generate the invoices just fine. I tried to compare the duties of both roles but I found nothing that jumped out at me for this case.

I also tried checking the security diagnostics to find the roles / privileges involved for Packing Duty License Number in the customer's profile. It already shows Sales man, so I'm fresh out of options at the moment.

Any advice on how to resolve this?

    Hi Vijay.

You need to make sure that the security role has been granted specific access to the CustTable.TaxLicenseNum table/field.

The reason why the role "Accounts receivable manager" can generate the sales invoice is because the Privilege "Edit customers" has this specific table and field access granted.

The privilege is attached to the "Maintain customer master" duty which is attached to the "Accounts Receivable manager" role, but the "Sales Manager" role also has the "Maintain customer master" duty attached.

So this table/field access should already be part of the role you mention.

This prompted me to double check the accesses of the Sales manager role and the standard role does not contain access to generate customer invoices. I think the roles you are mentioning have been modified to include the customer invoice generation, even though you have stated there are no customizations.

To fix the issue you are facing, you need to ensure that the table/field access as mentioned above is added to the security role, either through a privilege, duty or directly on the security role.

Dear Anh, Thanks for your reply. I had seen this article earlier, it describes my exact problem and explains the reason that its because there's no explicit access to the particular field in the table. But it gave me only a vague idea and not a direct solution, perhaps because I'm still new to the system. Thanks for your help!

Dear Nikolaj, Thanks for your reply. In our system, creating  / editing customers is not allowed to regular sales staff. Its done only by the manager. So I gave them only the read option for the TaxLicenseNum as you mentioned. Works like a charm! Thank you so much for helping me out with this!
