Create a "clean" copy of an existing database

Posted on by 65

I'm not sure if this is possible, but we are creating a new Company in our environment, and i'd like to use an existing company as the model. However, i don't want to copy any of the transaction (or master) data over to this new company. I just want the setup flags to be the same in the destination company.

From what i've ready PSTL's copy company function can't do that, it's either everything, or just reports, right? it may have been an old message board post, so please correct me if i am wrong.

Does anybody know of a tool that can do this? We own GP Power Tools, but i don't think it has that functionality either...

Make sure you make a backup because of the new company.

Go to the Microsoft Dynamics GP drop down and choose maintenance>clear data.

As an example to delete vendors

    choose Series>Purchasing

    Display Logical File

Choose Payables Vendor Master Logical File

Is ClearData a PSTL function? or is that a SQL command?

This article may help as well:

The article describes how to copy setup tables from one company to another, new company database.

No transactions are copies. Just Master tables. You can then use cleardata to remove any master data  not required.
