Dimension value must be blank in Account structure

(0) ShareShare

Hello,

in our scenario we will have one account structure for Balance sheet and one for Profit and Loss.

The Profit and loss account structure is built up by the segments:

  • Main Account
  • Business unit
  • Cost centre
  • Product
  • Project

For almost all main accounts product can be blank or to be filled in. But on some main accounts the client does not want the possibility to even fill in product. There must not be a value in the product dimenion on these accounts.

Anyone has an idea on how we can configure the account structure to say that product must be blank? We really want to have all profit and loss accounts in the same account structure. To break out these accounts in an own account structure is not preferrable.

    Hi AnnGrev,

You could work with the 'is' operator in the account structure configuration form and specify that only the value value allowe for the product financial dimension is ""

An alternative would be setting up a specific account structure for those special accounts that are not allowed to be posted with the product financial dimension.

    Hope this helps,

    Ludwig

    Hello AnnGrev,

    Yes, that's what I meant.

Please test if this does the job for you.

If you find some issues (please test especially some automatic transactions such as inventory closures, FX revaluations and alike) I would recommend that you setup a specific structure for those accounts.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hello!

Unfortunatley Iit didnt work to put *""* in the account structure. The system asked me to fill in that dimension anyway.  Although in the General journal  the list of choosable dimensions values for that dimension were blank. So I guess I have to break out the accounts in an own account structure.

By the way do you know of any known issue of delay in the system due to many account structures?

    best regards

    Hi AnnGrev,

Yeah, looks as if you have to use a separate account structure. In live applications I have not seen performance issues due to too many account structures. Yet, I only saw companies that used 4-5 active account structures in the ledger form for one single company even though they worked with more than 20 account structures in total that were required for other legal entities.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Logically its either in the account structure for the account, and this should be populated,  or it isn't.

AX 2012 R2  added functionality to fix a financial dimension value for a given main account. This ensures that regardless of other financial dimension assignments used on a particular AX transaction, posting to the main account for which you’ve defined a fixed dimension will always use that fixed financial dimension value.

The key towards using fixed financial dimension values in AX 2012 R2 for a given main account is to use the ‘Select the level of main account to display’ option in the Main accounts form. When this is set to ‘Companies’ you can map your individual companies and an additional fast tab called Financial dimensions fast tab then becomes available.

Maybe that will work for you. I've not tried this for system dimensions.

    Hi AnnGrev,

It works if you allow blank values.

Then it will have the following text: "";*""*

Allowing blank itself does not  solve the problem unless its made a mandatory to only enter blanks. Hence my suggestion  to use a fixed offset."

Or go with Ludwig;s initial suggestion of 'setting up a specific account structure for those special accounts that are not allowed to be posted with the product financial dimension".
