Purchasingn UsrCAL for SQL

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

As we are setting up our database for NAV,  we need to purchase the standard edition of SQL together with the number of usrCAL to access. I would like to ask how to estimate the number of CAL to purchase? The scenario is we will have 25 users in the user list with 13 concurrent users to access NAV at any given time. Please help to advise!

Thank you in advance!

    Hi,

What you need to deiced is how many users will be posting transactions which affect General Ledger.

If x number of users only do data entry and batch job (Job Queue) or authorized user only posting the transactions to the ledgers then you can reduce the number of full user license which is the best solution. Since it will allow you to reduce the total cost of licenses.

Therefore check on each users responsibility and check if the user post any transactions which affect the General Ledger. If so that user will be counted as a full user. Ex : If a user do the data entry and only GRN (expected cost posting disabled) then G/L related transactions will not get posted and that user will be counted as a limited user.

It is bit tricky on how to get the combination, easiest way is to have the base line for the full user is "does the user task post anything to GL"

    Dear panda84 ,

    This is your answer ....

According to your user list you have only 25 users

    and your user licences are

    7 full / 6 limited right ?

    So.......

The full user means  they have ability to "post" , but limited users cannot "post" any entry

you can decide which users are you going to allow post and which users will remain as limited

    according to that check ...

Eg : how many full users  need to log at same time (check all of your 7 full users need to log on at the same time)

Same as for the limited ,

If you can manage it you don't have to buy licences

but if the users are in trouble and waiting for some one logout ? , then just take more licences
