Update fields on Lead through a customer journey

Hi Community,

I am trying to update an option set field on a lead if the lead clicks on a link in an email through a customer journey. I have seen plenty og blogs an videos about creating a new lead or task through a customer journey with a trigger and a power automate flow. I cannot seem to get it to work when just wanting to update a lead and not create a new one. The scenario is I send an email to the lead and then have a branch that says 'if email linked click'. Here I would like to be able to update the option set field on the lead /Lead readyness/ to /sales ready/. Does anyone have an example on how this could be done?

Thank you!

Update fields on Lead through a customer journey
    Hi,
I have created a detailed tutorial on Lead and Contact updates using Journeys and flow for anyone looking to achieve this. Details here https://jmdaily.com/customer-insights-formally-dynamics-365-marketing-leverage-journeys-and-power-automate-flow-for-lead-and-contact-record-updates/

    Kind regards,
    Josh

In addition to my previous reply. I realized that "Lead ID" is empty in the Leads table, whereas the lead id is actually stored in the "Lead" column of the Lead table.

The issue is - you can not point to the "Lead" column in the Power Automate flow offered to you when you chose the trigger as the action (only the empty "Lead ID" column

(tested the trigger with a valid lead id (coming from the "Lead" column) and it worked fine. The issue is definitely handing over the lead id from the customer journey to the PA flow

I tried the suggested approach (trying to delete a lead, instead of updating). Added PA Flow to custom solution in same environment as the D365M app, saved, published customizations etc.

Simply getting a "System failure" in D365M and a flow never run in PA

    Hi Partner,
1.if a custom trigger is activated in one journey it will also be activated in other journeys which uses the trigger.
    Yes.
2.what lead will then be updated in the other journey?
Because the leadid attribute value is dynamics value , it is from the lead in that journey.
3.It is better to only use the trigger in one journey or is it ok to use it in multiple?
In order to avoid unnecessary trouble, it is best to use specific custom triggers for specific journeys, and to avoid placing the same trigger on multiple journeys if the business needs are different.

Thank you very much for your reply Leah. I will try this out. I have read alot about combining custom triggers and power automate flows and I can see that if a custom trigger is activated in one journey it will also be activated in other journeys which uses the trigger. I am concerned that this might create issues If I have another journey where i update leads with the same trigger. If the trigger is activated in one journey which causes it to activate in another - what lead will then be updated in the other journey?
Do you have any thoughts on this? It is better to only use the trigger in one journey or is it ok to use it in multiple?

    Hi Partner,
    Real time marketing?
If so, you can connect customer trigger and power automate in the RTM journey.
    1)Custom trigger:
    --select action:
--Add attributes to store lead id.
--Add all attributes you need, ready to use.
    2)Journey:
--Select the custom trigger you created, map lead id attribute:
--Add all actions you need, save and publish.
    3)Power automate:
    --Trigger
--Action is the trigger you created in step1.
    --Update a row
In the Row ID, populate dynamics value from trigger(select leadID attribute you added)
    --Save the flow.

    Hi Partner,
customer journey? Are you using outbound marketing?
In outbound marketing, audience(segment) can only be contact, you need build a segment of contacts associated with leads:
As you said, no 'update lead' action:
--Maybe you need consider that using 'Run workflow' action, which can make you select one on-demand workflow created on contact entity.
Here's the kicker, how do you update LEAD?
--Create one custom field 'update lead' on the contact entity, and update it on the above workflow.
--Then use this field change as trigger to update leads related to the contact through workflow/power automate.

I hope you can mark my answer verified if it is helpful! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
