Customizing product inventory

I am using Dynamics 365 v9 online instance.  I have a requirement while shipping the products to the customer, I need to reduce the quantity from the particular warehouse.  Product inventory is related to Inventory adjustment, Transfer and Purchase Order receipt.  We can't directly update the Product inventory qty on hand and qty available.  Is there a way can I integrate shipment transaction to the Inventory Journal and reflect these shipment entry in product inventory

Why not create a Inventory Adjustments for your shipments from a workflow to adjust the qty on hand? Maybe you can have a Inventory Adjustment type field and have a type of 'Shipment' to record what type of adjustment that is.

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your guidance.  Inventory Adjustment is same as Physical Inventory update.  But the company auditing purpose we need to track shipment transaction separately.  Through plug-In code,  I tried to create Inventory journal by using journal type as "On hand" and transaction type as "Shipment product"(New custom option created).  But I am getting error as "Manually journal can't create".  As you told, I can add Shipment reference details in Inventory Adjustment product.  But I would like to know any other way to update Product inventory by adding customization transaction in inventory journal.

You could create your own Oty On Hand field and make it calculated so that it adds the out of the box Qty On Hand field and another custom field to record the shipment product transactions Qty together.

This would mean that you are not breaking the out of the box field service functionality but now you are using a custom field which now records your shipment product transactions

Try using a "Manual" type inventory journal: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-engagement/field-service/manual-inventory-journals

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for the useful information link about manual inventory journal.  In my Dynamics 365 instance, the field service version is V7.5.  Inventory journal transaction type of "Manual" is not available.  I think it will be in V8.2 as suggested in the link which you have shared.

    Hi Jason,

I have upgraded field service to V8.3.  Now, I am able to see the "Create inventory journal" option in Advance Find of inventory journal.  But during creation, the transaction type is non editable. So I couldn't set the value of "Manual".  Please find the attached screen shot.  I have given all the field service roles for checking purpose.  But still it is not editable. Is any other settings missing.
