Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Archived)

Automatic data mining and extraction from NAV - for reports purposes

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are looking for a self-service tool for data extraction (such as BI tool) that could help us get business reports from Dynamics NAV. We are trying to avoid programming with navision object designer.

Does anyone know such automated tools and would suggest some for trying?

Thanks for help!

I know a software that provides automatic data extraction software ( nuvento.com/.../ ) from different sources. But, I am not sure whether it can apply to this solution. You can enquire and confirm about this.

    Mike,

thanks for trying out BIView for NAV tool. Hope it serves you well.

You have many such tools on the market and I suggest you make a good research to find a good fit for your company.

Make sure you look for a consultant if you're planning some larger BI investments on the way.

In avoidance of being a biased judge, I'll just emphasize some of the advantages of BIView for NAV so you don't miss the benefits of it.

    1. It's a Self-service BI tool with fast implementation (5 min away) - you can try it on your live data!

    (no programming involved)

    2. Desktop tool with standard filtering, drill down and pivoting

    3. BIView Mobile app with full functionallity will serve you on the field even without internet connection

    4. Custom settings for data refreshing

    5. Excel data extraction will preserve the data discovery model you prepared on BIView Desktop

    last but not least

    6. Reasonable pricing (Check it yourself: www.biview.com/pricing-biview-for-nav )

    Video tutorials available here: www.biview.com/.../biview-for-nav-dynamics-bi-training

Landing page of the product: www.biview.com/biview-for-nav-microsoft-dynamics-bi

Feel free to ask me for additional support.

    Kind regards,

There is also still the Microsoft Dynamics ERP Management Reporter (2012 is the latest release I think) which is shipped with an initial set of data mart properties also for NAV.

Thank you Mahesh! But I think Query and Excel Report tool is the correct one.

    Hi Mike,

Power BI, JetExpress, BIView are good tools and you should try them.

According to your requirement, our Query and Excel Report tool is suitable:

    1. A self-service tool for data extraction to Excel (Open XML).

    2. Avoid programming.

    3. Automatically run report to specified folder or send email (combine with standard NAV Job Queue).

    4. No need to install MS Excel for NAV Server, and add-on for Clients (sometimes make Excel slow down).

Please take a look at our:

    - YouTube Videos.

    - 4BzSoftware Website.

You can download trial at Mibuso Website.

You might want to try JetExpress, its free/easy to setup and Jet able to figure out the calculated fields and able to pull those in as well, such as amounts(if you try to pull those calculated fields directly from SQL, you will see it zero but Jet able to pull the value)

You should look at Power BI. It comes with Excel 2010 and up and Microsoft is increasingly adding to it new stuff like PowerBI.com and Power BI Desktop Designer.

It can be used both for reporting and BI.

    Thanks, Mahesh.

Looks quite interesting. It does require some knowledge about data model, though.

Besides that, I found JetReports and BIView for NAV as tools that could be an option for a tryout. Any other suggestions?
