Are there instructions on how to deploy the GP Web Client for Extranet access?
We have a client looking to eliminate applications being installed on workstations and have all applications available via browsers.
Hey Richard,
Have a look at this thread..
community.dynamics.com/.../can-dynamics-gp-2015-web-client-accessed-remotely
That should help.
To add, configuration of Web Client for extranet access really comes down to the type of certificate being used, as we would need to use a publicly resolvable certificate such as those purchased from Verisign, GoDaddy and others.
By default, internal CA certificates are not publicly resolvable and self-signed certificates as well.
Otherwise, the configuration of Web Client is the same whether internal or external user access.
Thanks
Not a very good idea to run all applications via a browser for GP, we have a bad experience on a client tried to use Webclient for GP in an Azure environment for everything, they used only about a week and had to return to the normal GP regular client for daily activities because the Web client performance is an issue, the protocol for communication with SQL server is quite different between Webclient and desktop client, let the Webclient to do what it is designed for. Just for some advice here being there before, if someone has good experience on running everything on a browser, please share your experience here.
Rob
This client has removed all applications from user's desktop with the exception of GP. They like the idea of having a single GP server and installing the web client onto that workstation and having all users connect via their browser to that server. If they were to install Citrix or setup a terminal server and put an icon for the web client onto that server would that be a good way to go? We are only talking 10 users here.
Richard,
For 10 users, I wouldn't start to bother with the GP web client setup.. too many moving pieces and performance wise, the users are going to hate you..
According to some old Microsoft whitepapers I had read somewhere long ago, a decently size Citrix / TS server can accommodate up to 25 GP fat client users. The same sized server can provide services to twice as many users if only using the GP web client... but this goes on the cost of work efficiency IMHO.
The web client is by no means as effective to work with as the fac client.. and Rob is right, leave that basic tasks like TS entry and EE reporting (or self-serve users).
Beat, the idea of the web client is not my idea. Their IT people are insisting on this. I will try once again to have them consider Citrix or a T/S. Thanks for your input.
