My client wants to distribute samples at zero sales price. The cost of these items - needs to be booked in samples cost rather than item cost. Is there any standard way in D365 F&O to achieve this?

You can create a new item group and set its posting profile to use the Samples cost account.

Alternatively, you can consider a customization where, based on the selected reason code, the financial transaction account is changed (developer involvement required).

You can slo create a new item and change the posting profile group to sample cost account.

    Hi,

You can achieve this requirement by using a specific Item sales tax group for the sample lines. The Item sales tax group is an option to specify a different ledger account on the Inventory posting setup form.

You can manually override the Item sales tax group on the item line like setting the manual price of zero for the samples.

Yes, in D365 F&O, you can handle this using sales orders with a zero price and assign a specific cost allocation (ledger account) via item charges or sales order financial dimensions. Use a separate sales order reason code or posting profile to route the cost to a “Samples” expense account instead of COGS. hctra

For this purpose, I create a new sales tax group like "Sample" and select on the lines and define in item posting profiles.

    Hi,

You can create an inventory movement journal, set the offset account to a dedicated "sample expense" (e.g. promotional or marketing expense). Then use SO to record the distribution of samples at $0 sales price.
