Store documents in SharePoint - passing metadata

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi all,

I'm very-very new to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013 but I'm experienced in SharePoint development. As for now, one of my customers asked to write some kind of a technical proposal about the integration between their currently running NAV 2013 environment with a running SharePoint 2013 on-premise.

I'm already searching a few hours but can't come closer to any solution.

Their request is as simple as: All documents are currently stored in Navision, but they must be stored in SharePoint. Including specific metadata coming from Navision.

All I can find are 3th party tools, but I can't image it doesn't exist in Navision itself... They still want to use Navision as their base system but for collaboration and sharing of documents they want to use SharePoint.

Can anyone provide me with information, tips, hints, links about how to accomplish this?

Regards,

    hi,

zetadocs (express) saves the documents in a SP-library. the files are structured in folders (named after that day, you archived the file). in these folders the documents are saved with name, record no., description, archive-date, user.

as i know, there is no out of the box nav archive solution using sharepoint.

the portal framework and sp client is not that kind of solution. it means the opportunity th embed nav pages in sp. follow msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh168943(v=nav.70).aspx

zetadocs delivery: is for document send per mail puposes, digitally signed docs, etc.

zetadocs capture: is an addon to zetadocs to easy archive mails, faxes, also included is an ocr solution.

maybe, as you mentioned, best way for you is to develop your own solution using the sharepoint web services. since nav 2015 there is a better office & SP integration, is worth to check that ...

Thanks Jonathan. As a matter of fact when I was talking about 3th party tools it was indeed zetadocs :)

As far as I understand it is for "archiving" documents, unless you either buy Zetadocs Delivery and Zetadocs Capture...

I was looking to out of the box features of Dynamics NAV, either by installing portal framework or something else... Client was to easily save documents in an ORGANIZED and STRUCTURED way to their SharePoint environment (and so, not just one library containing all documents but different places, linked to each other).

As far as I can understand we will need to do some NAV development and calling a custom SharePoint WCF Service to do the document routing, right?

Or is this something ZetaDocs can provide? Either with some customization :)

    Regards,

    hi,

try zetadocs (express). it's a dms with sharepoint storage at the backend. it's widely used. you get a simple drag-and-drop nav factbox  - useable in each sales/purchase page - to store the documents. they are linked with the used sales/purchase object and stored in sharepoint. zetadocs express is for free and quite simple installable.
