How to play around character limits for Company Name/Contact Card

Hi guys,

Any idea(s) how to work around the 30 character limit for Contact Cards?

Many companies that I register on a weekly basis exceed this limit.

Abbreviating, giving short forms is the way I work around them now, but this is getting difficult to keep track, and also the duplicate check sometime fails to detect duplicates in cases where the abbreviation is far too "different".

Example: the company United Parcel Services, versus simply "UPS" are often not picked up the duplicate search.

And checking whether there is a contact card for a company is difficult unless I remember exactly how I abbreviated the company previously, not to mention how another colleague made the entry.

This there a simple method to increase the character limit for contact cards? Or a way around this?

Thank you.

    What specific table and field are you talking about? Normally in Contact table fields are Text(50).

    You can use Name 2 field as continue of Name. It's extra 50 characters.

    In Russian localization there is "Full Name" field text[250] which exists in vendor and customer tables. Some partners like to write something like that in it's OnValidate trigger:

    Name := COPYSTR("Full Name", 1, MAXSTRLEN(Name));

    "Name 2" := COPYSTR("Full Name", MAXSTRLEN(Name) + 1, MAXSTRLEN("Name 2"));
