AX 2012 Management Reporter - Wildcard Range Not Functioning As Expected

Hello all,

I am having a problem getting groups of cost centers to report correctly in Management Reporter.

As an example, I have three rows defined as follows (the last 2 digits define the department, such as Accounting, while the first 2 are a location identifier):

+MainAccount = [50000:59999], CostCenter = [??10:??29]

+MainAccount = [50000:59999], CostCenter = [??30]

+MainAccount = [50000:59999], CostCenter = [??40:??99]

The row containing [??30] calculates correctly. The other two rows are returning results for all combinations from ??10 - ??99 - the same results on both rows.

Current MR version is 2.1.8001.0.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, especially if anyone knows if this has been fixed in a Hotfix or Cumulative Update - I'm not finding it if it has.

Hello PaladinSteve, Rather than using Wildcards have you tried using the "from ... to" specifications that you can make for the different main account - financial dimension combinations? Ludwig

Hello Ludwig, The problem with that solution is that because those ?? wildcards are replacing 3 locations currently, it would triple the number of definitions for many of the lines in the income statement row definition, if I am understanding your suggestion correctly. It also means I would have to manually add definitions when a new location is added, which is likely.

Am I correct that you are proposing I do something like this for every affected line?

    +MainAccount = [50000:59999], CostCenter = [0040:0099] + MainAccount = [50000:59999], CostCenter = [0140:0199] + MainAccount = [50000:59999], CostCenter = [0240:0299]

I believe that it is another engine running this then the standard AX querry utility. Reason being that the syntax is different then in AX.

Also the syntax seems to be a bit odd if you want from/to values... ??xx:??xx would result in multiple ranges.

    Does *xx:*xx work?

    Hello PaladinSteve,

The use of wildcards as you intend is not recommended / supported in each and every MR version. Please have a look at the following whitepaper (page 19) where it says that you should better use ranges.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Apologies for the delay in replying.

Ludwing, I am unable to open the link you sent. I get a 404 Page Not Found error.

Fredrik, using *xx:*xx does not work. I get a little red stop sign next to each line where I put *xx. ??xx appears to be the correct syntax, but as Ludwig noted, it is perhaps not supported in the context I am trying to use it.

Using ??xx alone, not as part of a range definition, works as expected.
