Budget control configuration

Dear all,

I have two questions regarding budget control configuration in D365.

1) Is it possible to set up budget control so that it will only warn users instead of blocking them? I know it is possible to set up permission group but this is not my point.

2) I have seen that it is possible to exclude main account dimension from budget control dimensions. However, budget register entries are made at main account + financial dimensions levels. My purpose is to know if it is possible to register budget entries only at financial dimension values level excluding main account control.

Let us say Department 1 is granted budget of 1000€ for January to be spent on several expense main accounts such as Furniture and IT equipment.

If I exclude Main account from budget control dimensions, will the user be able to spend its 1000€ either on Furniture or IT equipment if I only register a budget entry at financial dimension level? I tried but didn't succeed as D365 wants me to enter a main account when I try to register budget entry.

Thank you in advance for your valuable help.

Kind regards

    Hi Mike,

    1. Permission group is a good way to achieve your requirement. Why isn't it what you want?

    2. In other words, that means all mainaccounts must have been controlled. On the select main accounts tab, please select all accounts.

    Hi Matt,

    Thank you for your reply.

    1. My requirement is more to know if I can allow with warning to all users rather than including all users in that permission group. My company doesn't want to make budget control blocking at the beginning. If budget control has to always be set up as blocking, we will then think to use permission groups.

    2. That's exactly what we wanted if I understand well its purpose : Being able to assign budget on financial dimension values to be spent across several main accounts. That means if I create financial dimension value "Worker", I assign 1000€ as a budget register entry on him using expense account 62700000 for instance, he will then be able to use it as he wants on the procurement category he wants without being blocked by main account control level. For example : he makes a purchase requisition for 600€ on procurement category 1 (main account 62700000) and for 500€ for procurement category 2 (main account 62800000), budget check will fail.

I will perform some tests and give feedback

Thank you again for great help

    Mike
