Dynamics 365 for Marketing Portal Login

Hello Community,

I have a Dynamics 365 for Marketing instance that's integrated with the Dynamics portal for event management. After I have published the event and when I go to the event registration page on the portal, I am having problem registering for a login account. My understanding is that I would provide the same username/password of my AD account when trying to register for my portal login account, but I keep getting message that my AD email already exists in the system.

Could anyone help providing me with some pointers as to what steps I might be missing here? How can I register for my portal login account in this scenario, so that I can sign-in to the portal? Again, by portal I am using it in the context of Dynamics 365 for Marketing for the event website.

Thank you!

    Hi Karl,

Thank you very much for your reply and helpful tips!

One additional question I have and would appreciate your feedback:

    - When using the Send Invitation feature to invite contacts to the portal, is it a must that I assign web roles to the contacts? In the context of the Dynamics 365 for Marketing when the portal is integrated for the event website, it appears to me that contacts won't require web roles assigned to login to the portal to view the event website. And I am referring to the situation where we are simply using the out of the box event website that gets created when setting up an event in Dynamics 365 for Marketing. My understanding with the Web Roles is that Web Roles are only required if we are setting up web pages on the portal site, but not really required when using the portal in the context of Dynamics 365 for Marketing event.

    Am I right?

    Thanks!

    Hi Eric,

I think your AD email address may already belong to a contact record in your system. Or perhaps the system treats AD accounts similarly to existing contacts in this regard (I'm unsure about this).

I think you have two possibilities here:

    • Create a new portal account using an email address that isn't already saved in a contact record.
    • Send a portal invitation to the existing contact record.

To send an invitation to an existing contact:

To create a new portal account:

    1. Open your event website, for example by opening any event record and selecting the globe button next to the Event URL field.

    2. On the event website, select the Sign In button at the top of the page.

    3. On the sign-in page, go to the Register tab and fill out the fields to create a new account. Note that you must use an email address that doesn't already belong to a contact in your database. Be sure to make a note of your user name and password.

    4. The Profile page opens. Enter your first and last names in the fields provided and select Update.

    5. Your account is now created.

    . Karl
