Update Multiple Records without One-By-One Changing: Inventory Costs

I am currently working in Cost Management > Inventory accounting > Released products, and needing to update the 'Latest cost price' toggle for thousands of records.

I am wanting to update all products to 'yes' for this field, but do not believe it to be necessary to go one-by-one to change each product to 'yes' for Latest Cost Price. So, we had explored the 'Open in Excel' feature as this had been useful previously in updating multiple fields and publishing the changes back to D365FO, updating thousands of records without manually going one-by-one in D365FO to make these changes (e.g. modify financial dimension for multiple accounts). Is it possible to change this toggle to 'yes' by utilizing the 'Open in Excel' feature of D365FO that allows for changes to be made and published back? I am not seeing cost in any of the listed 'Open in Excel' files available:

In other instances, for changes to be made, we had to go through the different environments (test, stage) to make changes using SQL through SQL Server Database in each environment through LCS, and then ask Microsoft to promote changes to production. I would like to avoid this option if possible, but understand this is probably another option in lieu of an 'Open in Excel' option being available.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi zrobins6,

You can use the Released products V2 entity to update this field via 'Open in Excel'. When you have the Excel file opened, you can open the designer and add the field IsUnitCostAutomaticallyUpdated (Update the product automatically with the latest cost price).

Then refresh the data; make your changes and publish them. Note that this field can't be enabled for items which do have the standard cost as inventory costing principle.

Thank you, Andre. Your advice has gotten me closer to what I am needing, unfortunately I am getting an error when I attempt to do this in our stage environment.

When I first opened the workbook:

    1. I added in the desired fields (Item Number, and 'IsUnitCostAutomaticallyUpdated').
    2. I then clicked 'update' and it updated the excel table.
    3. I then clicked 'refresh' to refresh the data as the 'IsUnitCostAutomaticallyUpdated' had been blank. Once I refreshed, this column populated with the data.
    4. When I tested the first product by changing the 'IsUnitCostAutomaticallyUpdated' to Yes and clicking 'Publish', I got the following error (RecId omitted in error below):
      1. "Details: A row update in data set ReleasedProductsV2 was not published. Error message: 'Write failed for table row of type 'EcoResReleasedProductV2Entity'. Infolog: Error: Cannot locate data source record of type RetailInventTable with RecId [REMOVED]. Entity name: EcoResReleasedProductV2Entity, RecId: [REMOVED], Database operation: Update..'"

Does this have to do with what you mentioned " Note that this field can't be enabled for items which do have the standard cost as inventory costing principle." ?

Thank you again for your help on this.

    Hi zrobins6,

This is, I think, not related to the condition I mentioned. Is this happening for all items or just a few? What happens if you try it with the same item via the user interface?

So, in the workbook, I tried:

    1. adding a few fields in the designer, changing the 'IsUnitCostAutomaticallyUpdated' field to 'Yes', but that returned this error.
    2. adding in all of the available fields to the designer, changed 'IsUnitCostAutomaticallyUpdated' field to 'Yes', but even that returned this error.
    3. refresh the entity list under Framework Parameters in Data Management module as well, and try again. But still the same error occurs.

Within the user interface, I am able to manually change the 'Latest Cost Price' field to yes and save it without error.

    Hi,

Can you try to check for the current record that you updated, try to update only 1 records by choosing the value from the Excel Right panel for Data Connector, choose yes and ensure the data you updated is in the correct legal entity. I just tried to check and I was able to update from excel.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anh Ong

    Hey Alex,

Thank you for your response. The process you are describing sounds like the process I had described up above, with the exception of the "correct legal entity". If I am selecting to open the released products v2 from the correct legal entity, is it possible for the excel file that opens to be for the incorrect legal entity? Do I need to change the legal entity in excel to resolve this issue? If so, how?

Can you check if there are customizations on this data entity in your environment? I have checked it in two environments and did not get the error you encounter now.

    Thanks, Andre.

What would be the ideal way to check for customizations on an entity?

    Hi zrobins6,

A developer would be able to check if in the development environment a data entity extension is present for this entity.

    Thanks, Andre.

Within our dev environment, I looked in Visual Studio, and found these extensions:

Is this what you were looking for on this?
