Order unit of measure vs. Billing unit of measure

Hi, I need some help and I'm sure there must be a way to do this in AX: In our business we have customers ordering items with a variable unit of measure where the price is affected by that unit of measure. For example, I need to order 1 cable of variable length (i.e. 6 feet) which is priced per foot. We then want to show a single line item on the invoice with the calculated price. In other words a Quantity of 1 but variable amount which helps calculate the price. We need: Quantity: 1; Item: Cable, 6'; Price: $6; RATHER THAN Quantity: 6; Item: Cable, per foot; Price: $6; We do not want to create an item in the rate card table for each possible length. Is there a field I can use other than quantity that will allow me to calculate an item price with just a Quantity of 1? Thanks!

Dear Alan, Yes, this field is indeed available. In InnoVites for Cable, the certified vertical on AX for wire&cable. I would be happy to share more details - just drop me an email at agroothedde@innovites.com.

Sorry, it's a late response - but maybe valuable for other people in the field that have similar issues.

    Regards, Albert

Have you considerd UOM? Stock in reels and sell in M? Depends if the reel rate to meter is constant. Then you could stock in REEL and set price in M, then you could sell in REEL and have a UOM conversion which will give you the price. If the UOM varies on the REEL/M relationship then you would need to sell in M. Still one item number per.

Alternatively use the price unit, if you set this as 1/6 the REEL would be 1 and if the price was in REEL's it would then calculate it.

@Weaveriski - Thanks for the suggestion, and yes this works for a finite number of possible lengths. However in the cable industry the length is a continuum so it can have any value. InnoVites has built this 'length behavior' in AX throughout: from sales to planning, production, purchasing, cutting, reservation, length-based netting.....etc.. Let me know if you would like to get more info.

If the user is not in the cable industry and they just sell the odd item by reel/length then buying an add-on for a small percentage of items seems overkill if it can be handled manually. I am sure if they are in the cable industry they will contact you :-)

Yeah, you are probably right, but I can tell you: seeing is buying! ;-)

If you want a short web-demo, just drop me an email at agroothedde@innovites.com.
