Warehouse Mobile Devices Portal Service Account

Hi,

Microsoft recommends that we setup a service account to run the application pool for the website for each AX environment:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Dn741429.aspx

If you have each AX environment on its own separate server, can you setup one service account for the Warehouse Mobile Devices Portal in the domain in the Active directory and use it for multiple AX environments?

    Hi,

You can have a look at my blog posts how to install and remove WMDP instances. This might give some more insights.

The service accounts are not only used to run the WMDP instance, but is also setup as internal user in AX. The default company of that internal user is used to manage the company for that portal instance. So you setup an instance per legal entity.

So indeed for each instance, you need another service account.

If you have a production and test environment, you can use one single service account for both environments. You can manage the AOS in the web.config file as mentioned in the post you shared yourself.

    Hi Andre,

Thanks for the reply. Just to be clear:

If I have Test environment A sitting on Server A and Test environment B sitting on Server B, I can use only 1 service account, call it User A for the both environments?

Also, are there any disadvantages to that approach?

In that case I should not have to modify the web.config file.

    Hi,

This is possible. If you install the WMDP on server A it will have the link with AOS A. Also install the WMDP on server B for a link with the other AOS. In that case you can use the same service account. As the AX environment is connected during istall you don't have to modify the web.config.file.

each server has its own URL for opening the WMDP on a device.

Forgot to mention: I can't think of disadvantages. The advantage is that you don't have to create a user per environment. Also for Test A and Test B you can choose to have different default companies setup.
