Financial dimension in the offset account

Hey all together,

I have currently setup a really complex account structure to combine a global chart of accounts as a leading one with a national chart of accounts as a findim. Unfortunately it is not an 1:1 relation possible.

So I have setup an accountstructure for Balance Sheet and P & L having the mainAccount and the FinDim "natMA" as a segment.

For sure there are different natMA related to one Group Main Account.

So fine so good.

When entering a posting line in a general journal I always get an error because the findim "natMA" is automatically overtaken to the FinDim "natMA" in the offset account. So I always have to delete the wrong overtaken FinDim from the Account and enter the right one.

For posting MainAccount to MainAccount this is possible but horrible, but when posting to a vendor I have always to change the FinDim using the Tab - Financial Dimensions

I hope my problem is understandable.

Do you have any ideas on that?

Thanks

Sabine

Not sure if I understood your question but in general, this is a design of Dynamics FO, if you are using single line entry with main and Offset account, your dimension will be overridden with  main account dimension.

Yes, that´s exactly the problem - in a general journal you can get it by changing manually, but posting an invoice out of vendor module doesn´t work aswell - so I think that´s not a way to deal with the two chart of accounts.

    Thanks for your quick reply.

But, why do you want to change the dimension in offset account? in vendor invoice, offset account will be cost account so why do you want to use different value?

    Hi Sabine,

Can you elaborate what is the exact situation when you mention that there is no 1:1 relation possible? Even though, you have a default on the main account. Can one MA have multiple local accounts? Can one local account be linked to many MAs?

    Hello Sabine,

A split posting might help for the problem that the offset account inherits the findim of the main account that you enter in a single GL line.

That is, instead of entering your voucher in a single line, enter it in multiple ones.

The second problem that you report for the vendor transactions seems to be due to the 1:n relationship that you have for your main account and natMA findim.

There is no straightforward solution available for that.

One option would be to make use of the 'derived findim' functionality.

Another option might be making use of account alias or voucher templates.

Yet because of the 1:n relationship you might always face the issue that there is a transaction where you have to manually enter the findim.

One way to avoid this altogether would be to setup the natMA as account and use the group CoA numbers as findim.

If you make use of fixed financial dimension settings the problem should be gone.

Yet, this would require that you 'flip' your complete setup and I don't know if this is an option.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thanks a lot Reinhard - all these options I have already tried out ...

Yes, many local accounts can be linked to one main account.

    Hello Sabine,

If you have already tested the workarounds and in case they are not acceptable from a handling/performance point of view then one of the last things you might consider is flipping the setup.

That is, use the local CoA and map the group account numbers to the local CoA via a separate financial dimension.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hello,

@Ludwig Reinhard I actually did the same as you suggested 'use the local CoA and map the group account numbers to the local CoA via a separate financial dimension'
Still, when I create manually a GL the financial dimension is taken from the ledger instead of following the financial dimension selected in the offset account.

Can you advise what can I do differently?

@bausti did you find the issue in the end?

    many thx
    Melinda
