GP on Azure with Slow connection to client

Hello,

So I have installed GP 2018 R2 on Azure with VPN to connect with GP clients and all is good but the performance of the client machines are too slow comparing to using a remote desktop on a machine on Azure.

is there a way to make the performance better on client machines?

Thanks and Regards,

    Ahmed,

Where did you setup the GP clients to access your SQL server and GP databases ? on local computers ? bad idea..

Putting GP on Azure is the same as trying to tell users to connect to their remote office thru a VPN and use the local GP client.. this is not a supported configuration by Microsoft.

The GP client is a heavy client-server applications which sends & receives tons of data back & forth between the computer client and the SQL database.

In the case of remote working, Microsoft recommends to put all the users on a Citrix or RDS Terminal Server environment.

RDS can be setup in a way that users would login thru a Web Proxy site on Azure and run GP as if it would be local. It is much faster as only the screen content is sent over the network to be refreshed.

The only slight limitation with this setup is that users have to be trained on how to print out remotely on their local printer and also where to save their documents they export from  GP.

    Hi Kassab

What you are describing is NOT SUPPORTED.  If you want to run Microsoft Dynamics GP over a VPN or WAN connection it must be via Terminal Server, Citrix Server or Remote Desktop connection.

Please see my 2010 article on the topic:
