Hi - I am supporting a client who delivers email in both English and French. I would like anyone looking to manage their email preferences to be taken to a preference center in the appropriate language. Based on the new Compliance Profile approach to managing consent and topics, I created two compliance profiles - one for EN and one for FR. The topics are the same for both, just translated from EN to FR. I had been hoping that both profiles could just use one set of topics referencing the English topics (since the staff creating all the emails are English speaking) and just customize the preference center for the FR profile so that the visible form labels were translated but still store data to the English topics.
If I try to do this, it just results in two topics of the same name in the overall Topics table making it hard to tell which profile each is attached to.
What's the best practice here for multilingual clients? Should I just enter a separate set of topics with the French values? It just seems like down the road if a feature is introduced to segment by topic interest, regardless of language they are still interested in the same topic and I could cross reference by Preferred Language vs having to match against two topics in different languages. Just trying to reduce barriers for the staff since all are English speaking.
I am going to add a reply to my own question after reading the brilliant Megan Walker's latest blog post. If you need a bilingual preference center while preserving existing compliance/topic settings, look no further...
