NAV Issues

Hi all,

Am a very new user to NAV, but have a well grounded software background as a Controls Engineer. I've spent a few years immersed in PLC programming, HMI set-ups and am familiar with most Rockwell and Siemens/PROFIBUS software.

With plenty of Microsoft knowledge through the years, mostly in domestic/semi-professional useage, my question to all reading would be this.... - with some fairly high level knowledge of different software configurations, where would be a good point to start really getting into the coding and set-up of NAV in a warehousing environment?

Not 100% certain how I stumbled into the role, but I now find myself as an Operations Manager in a fairly busy wholesalers warehouse business. There are some ongoing issues that I can recognise, get to the bottom of, but then struggle to find answers to how to adjust set ups and standard operating procedures.

Before suggesting the easy answer - the company super-users - I have a depressing feeling and the sinking realisation that they may be a large part of the issues. As a consequence, ego and other personal garbage begins to clog up simple answers and obvious problem-solving processes.

To add into the mix, the support company we use are, at best, tepid in response time and understanding our business and what our issues actually are. With my years in Engineering, I know the first part of solving a problem is the basic identification of the issue, then working out a dynamic fix to get beyond the problem. With my growing NAV experience it's becoming clearer on a daily basis I need to grab this by the scruff of the neck and get this done.

Any advice the reader may have on where best to start - simpler maybe to assume I know nothing - and where best to develop my skill set and knowledge base would be gratefully received.

       Many thanks for your time.

    RE: NAV Issues

I have purchased many of these books and they've all been excellent resources for learning NAV.  As a NAV customer you should also have access through CustomerSource where you can find the official Microsoft documentation.  If you don't have a login for it, contact your NAV partner.
