Finite Capacity Planning with Operation Scheduling

Dear All,

a classic issue, but somehow alway different. MRP with finite capacity. I am not a nooby with this subject, but i am stumbeling across a funny behaviour here:

  • customer wants the finite capacity thing to work
  • customer is only doing operations scheduling
  • when i set parameter in master plan "planning method" = operation scheduling - system will NOT do any capacity reservation and there will not schedule correct
  • when i set parameter to "Job Scheduling" in the plan, system will correctly plan and reserver capacity on ressources

is it not possible to do finite capacity planning on ressource group level (operations scheduling level) , that actually would be new to me

(Version 2012 R2)

regards. Ruben

    Thanks QianQW.

Thats exactly what i expected. The system is configured to work exactly this way. But we re gettin no results.

when i configure MRS with job scheduling, it all works fine, but it will not do its job with operations scheduling :(

RE: Finite Capacity Planning with Operation Scheduling

    Hi Ruben,

It can do finite capacity planning, just not as accurate as job scheduling.

If you are working with finite capacity, the schedule depends on the availability of the resources that are required to complete production.

If you specify a resource group, the schedule reserves the capacity of the group. Scheduling preserves the capacity of a resource group based on the order and time of operations on the production path.
