activated AD FS and Invoice emails stopped working

I have found that it is not possible to use AD FS authentication with the GP desktop client.  I have a client that has AD FS active for their network.  Before this was activated they would email invoices.  When it was activated they get the following error for the exchange login:  "Login failed: Check your login information and try again."

Their outlook is setup and working.  Any ideas?
