Barcode in a Package Card

We have a Package Card (Page) that we want to create a barcode (12 chars) field on.  Can someone give me an idea on how to implement this?  We want to auto create a barcode value (up to 12 characters) to uniquely identify a package that we can print and tag onto our packages.  Is this something we can do in Nav 2013?

Please advise.

    Is there any details u want to encode into the barcode or you just want to have a barcode to identify the item?

    If you just want to create numbers and not want to encode any details then use "GUID"

    To make sure number get not repeated, you can store the created numbers in a table and then check the new number against the old numbers. If the number is not already available in the system you can assign it to your packages.
