Microsoft announced some improvements, but I don't know yet what it exactly means. Keep your hope and we'll see soon.

(Or maybe somebody else knows more...)

    Hi Martin

Yes, I heard that on Tech Conference last month but unfortunately, they didn't tell us much about it

In Ax2012 and R2 release, OData improvements were targeted towards data mashup and reporting scenarios with tools such as Excel PowerPivot. So, update, insert are not supported via OData provider in R2 release.

For an example, an administrator can use OData feeds to make AX data available securely to users for reporting. AX2012 release provided the ability to define OData feeds using AX queries. There were a few limitations in supporting legacy queries in AX2012. In R2 release these limitations are gone - also admin can create a scoped down OData feed using an AX query by defining filters and ranges.

Ok, thanks. Do you know if there is any plan to support  update, insert etc in the future?

I don't see the need for supporting Updates or inserts via OData, in the since of how it's targeted for Reporting use with Dynamics AX. It's true that there are some very nice improvements for OData feeds for AX 2012 R2, but not all Queries are created equal. :-)

I was more interested of what you may be able to do with Lightswitch

The focus for implementing OData with Dynamics AX has been specifically around reporting. If Bi-direction operations are desired, then Custom Services, or Document Services representing as WCF enf points are the design path  - and what should be targeted. Document Services allow, when setup, CRUD operations.
