Hi,

We have a scenario wherein the build environment is on 10.0.27 and we need to update it to the latest one.
On applying the updates it just gives preparing failed with blank log files.
Is there a particular process to update an older version to 10.0.41 ?

Thanks,
VK

    Replace it.

There are lots of advantages to replacing Cloud Hosted Environments regularly, especially build environments, as a service update alone often isn't enough to complete the update. Have a read about the reasons here: https://anthonyblake.github.io/d365/finance/sysadmin/2024/11/30/d365-sysadmin-update-che.html

Alternatively, you could take the opportunity to configure a pipeline to use the Azure DevOps hosted builds.

    Hi,

Yes you need to install VC++ on the VM in order for the update to work since your current version is old.

Here's an article i wrote last year about updating environments. Hopefully it will help.

    Thanks,

    Hi Vicky,

In addition to the reply from Sukrut, you can also consider creating a full new VM to act as the new build environment. It then directly comes with all latest Windows+Dynamics configurations and patches.

Is there any reason you are still using build environment and not updated since long?

You should definitely be looking at using hosted agents instead of build VM.

Also, in case you are updating environment from version 10.0.35 or earlier, please make sure that you update the VC++ runtime. It can be downloaded here
