We have a case from customer.
It is related to approval workflow for Leave and absence. Where the request for leave is approved by 2 levels above - line manager and manager of the line manager.
The customer wants the workflow to move straight to the manager level in case the line manager left the company and the position became open.
Could you advise whether this case can be covered with standard workflow. I did some tests, but in case the line manager position is vacant, the workflow fails.

You may use that in the assignment
Managerial hierarchy work with positions and employees, if the position is vacant, system will not be able to assign the work item to an user (user being linked to an employee).
