D365 for Desktop

Posted on by 232

Hi,

Our customers are looking to use D365 for Desktop app instead of outlook client. I was searching for supporting docs related to Desktop app. But I didn't get any. I have some questions on using Desktop app and whether it will satisfy our requirements.

1. Currently we are using D365 v8.2.10 onpremise with claim based authentication. If we go with desktop app, will it be able to connect to it?

2. If we go with Desktop app, will we loose any major functionality which we get from outlook client?

3. I see some reviews which says Desktop app is not working well in Windows 10. Is it true?

4. I see the app is free in windows store. Do we need any license apart from Dynamics 365 CAL?

Thanks,

Nithya

    Hi partner,

I don't recommend using the D365 desktop app to log in to the D365 OP, although it can be used in windows 10 pc.

Moreover, it simply cannot replace the Outlook Client.

If you want to know more about the D365 desktop app, I would recommend you raise a support ticket.

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick response :)

Yes. I referred D365 for outlook as Outlook client.

And I see D365 desktop app can be used in windows 10 pc as well. Here is the link FYR.

    Hi partner,

In addition, does "Outlook Client" refer to Dynamics 365 for Outlook?

If so, then I think D365 for Desktop can't replace it.

    RE: D365 for Desktop

    Hi partner,

This D365 for Desktop is actually designed for the mobile side (touch screen), it is especially suitable for use on a tablet or mobile phone, but not for desktop computers (mouse operation).

If you're using D365 on the desktop, I recommend that you use a browser to open it instead of this app.

    RE: D365 for Desktop

    Hi,

Thanks for the response. I don't have the desktop app installed in my machine yet. We are first checking for the feasibility of using it. When I searched about it, I only got a windows store link to download it, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/microsoft-dynamics-365/9nblggh4rfqp?activetab=pivot:overviewtab.

    Thanks,

    Nithya

    Hi Nithya,

Could you provide a screenshot of the D365 for Desktop you see?

As far as I know, there is currently no D365 for Desktop app, so maybe you are referring to another app.

Or are you referring to the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook?
