Users intermittently need to clear cache after kernel update

Hi,

We are experiencing an issue where are users are intermittently needing to clear their cache after I completed a kernel update.  Users log in to our terminal server, when they open the AX client it fails almost immediately.  The fix is to go and clear their cache by going to c:\users\username\appdata\local and deleting *.auc files.

The issue seems to keep happening a few days after they clear their cache.  Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

can you please check the event viewer of the AOS to see if there is any error messages.

Just checked - not errors in either AOS1 or AOS2 event logs.

The issue seems random - some users had to clear cache right after the update others didn't have to until today.

    Hello rumberger

Sometimes, part of the user profile is synchronized between local and network profiles or for laptop users, part of the user profile is defined for "offline folders".

Please check, if you have multiple instances of *.auc files.

And maybe, you should clear user data in the AX client.

I touched base with our var - it seems to be a corrupt .kti file.  I will post the fix once we figure it out.

We have an updated kernel which we have installed in our lower environments.  We believe that this is going to be the fix and will be testing it.  I'll update this post with the results after we have completed our testing and moved the new kernel to production.

    thanks for all the help.

Make sure you apply the kernel to all the components on every machine that play in on your system - enterprise portal, ssrs, etc.. I have seen crashes because of mismatched versions. You can run this batch file like this to clear all the cache :

    @echo off

    cls

    taskkill /IM Ax32.exe /F

    rem XP

    SET XPFOLDER=%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data

if not exist "%XPFOLDER%" goto endXP

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%XPFOLDER%\ax*.auc"

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%XPFOLDER%\ax*.aoc"

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%XPFOLDER%\ax*.kti"

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%XPFOLDER%\Microsoft\Dynamics Ax\*.*"

    cmd /c rd /s/q "%XPFOLDER%\Microsoft\Dynamics Ax"

    :endXP

    rem Vista

    SET VISTAFOLDER=%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local

if not exist "%VISTAFOLDER%" goto endVista

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%VISTAFOLDER%\ax*.auc"

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%VISTAFOLDER%\ax*.aoc"

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%VISTAFOLDER%\ax*.kti"

    cmd /c del  /f /s /q "%VISTAFOLDER%\Microsoft\Dynamics Ax\*.*"

    cmd /c rd /s/q "%VISTAFOLDER%\Microsoft\Dynamics Ax"

    :endVista

I recently spotted this blog post, which describes how your AUC files can get muddled if you use the same AX Client to connect to different instances of AX, and the databases of some of those instances have been created by copying the database of another:

    blogs.msdn.com/.../identical-ax-2009-auc-file-created-for-multiple-ax-installations.aspx

Although the article is for AX 2009, I am told it is applicable for AX 2012.
