AX returns Communication Error

(0) ShareShare

Hello All,

I have downloaded and installed the AX 2012 R3 CU9 VM A demo machine.

The Windows Server 2012 has activated itself, but when I start AX it just says Communication Error. The server is unavailable. If someone could point me at the article that tells me what settings I have to change to get it to work that would be great.

I want 2012 as I used to support end users in AX4 until about 2.5 years ago, wanting to go back to IT support I am going for a job where they have 2012 in use, so thought I'd do some homework, hence not going for the 365 option.

    Hi DavePlym,

You need to check that AX service is running. Go to Services and find one with name Microsoft Dynamics AX Object Server. Try to start it. If it won't start go to windows log and check for errors.

The VM should just work out of the box. Maybe you do not have enough resources allocated, it needs 8 GB RAM as a minimum (with which it might or might not start depending on what services do you stop, like SharePoint to get it working), 16 GB as recommended memory. Also check the Event Log and verify if all services are running correctly.

It used to work back in the days, now you will notice that bunch of things has expired, like retail certificates, so errors from event viewer could shed some light :)

Had already tried to start that, hadn't looked in the log, looks like a database issue, see below

    Hi DavePlym,

When you download the AX 2012 R3 CU9 VM Part A, Ensure all the rar files are downloaded as per size in the MS site. The Last part of .rar while which is around more than 3gb sometime downloads few mb's. Please ensure you download the entire parts with complete size. And also maintain the minimum system requirements should be good enough to run the VM.

    Thanks

have tried downloading part 38 three times now, each time around 160Mb, not the 400Mb in the list

    Hi Dave,

This is the issue, You can try download R3 CU8 instead. The CU9 version is working and able to download complete parts.

    Thanks
