Hi, Can someone please tell me how I would put comments on a production order for AX2012?  Right now I only see the picking list or B.O.M. Journals with the the Production order # after printing.  I would like to leave a comment on the production order for the manufacturing guys on the floor. Thank you for your help.

    Are you using routes?

For a note related to one end item, you can go to the Released Products-> Engineer tab-> Route->  Select the Route Version in the top of the form -> Select the operation in the bottom of the form -> Click the "Description" tab, select a "Type" and type your note in the textbox below.

You can also add the notes to All products or an Item Group by going to the Routes from Production Control-> Common-> Routes-> All Routes - > Edit -> Select the operation in the TOP of the form, then in the bottom of the form you will see the "All" relation, jump over to the description tab and you will see you can type a note here as well.

When you release your production order, select the General tab and check the "Print Route Card" you will see your notes from the Route operation.

We are using Picklists and B.O.M. Journals no ROUTES. Not sure if there is a way like this. Thanks

Your understanding is correct, you would need a mod to do what you are asking or attach something through document handling (manually) and tell the user to go look for attachments.  That's clunky and error prone though.

you can attach a note to your production order by using document handling.

You don't need customization, just use the out of box functionality "Attachment".

and create a type of note. It's on the right of the action pane.

i think we can attach notes to the production order but not make them to show in reports unlike sales order confirmation report where we can have a memo..

The notes actually stored in the DocuRef Table.

You can customize the report to show the notes.

    1. I believe the shortest way would be to amend your picking list to include a type of noe from the DocuRef table.

    2. Start using routes and print the route card. Adding a comment route will simply make it pop up when you need it. No amendments acquired.

    3. When you use routes you can always take the next leap and use manufacturing executions. Then you can prompt the user with notes, drawing or any other document you need them to read before starting manufacturing.

You can read about this in my AX 2012 time and attendance blog. Check out the post about Document routes.
