AX7, Private Cloud on Azure

Hi all

With the announcement of Azure Stack being delayed until mid 2017 our original plan of having the Private Cloud version of AX7 running on-premises is at risk.

Does anyone know if the Private Cloud version of AX7 is available on Azure?  I am pretty sure that Azure Stack is not a pre-req for this version, but want to get clarity.

thanks in advance!

Sam

    Microsoft has recently started selling licenses for AX7 on-premise version, and the current target is Q1 2017 if my sources are right. There are no official announcements yet.

    Hi Sam

    Unfortunately, right now we don't know nothing about when Microsoft will make available AX7 On-premise.

    For sure, Azure Stack will be a requirement in order to run AX 7 On-premise.

    The Private Cloud (On-premise) version for AX 7 is Azure Stack

    Yet there are no public announcements regarding this subject.

    We need to wait.

    All,

    Please read this blog post for the latest official roadmap disclosure. We are working towards more details to be disclosed in October 2016.

    Unfortunately after reading through the roadmap disclosure we did not get any closer for this topic.

    For the on-premise solution we require more information about what are the prerequisites for software and infrastructure, when and what is going to be delivered in order to make sure the right investments are in place at the right time.

    Hybrid cloud sounds nice from marketing perspective, but we have to understand practical usability. Customers like JJ, who already utilize the cloud for example in the Machine Learning area (and some new ones will come in the near future), and heavy integrations built around the ERP (locally hosted eCommerce portal, mobile drivers' delivery application, mobile sales app, inventory management device, etc.) cannot afford anything else than truly local installations for performance and manageability reasons.

    Also as part of our R3 upgrade we have procured powerful hardware with the intention of hosting the future Microsoft Dynamics AX On-Premise version in form of a hyper-converged software defined solution from Nutanix, where we expect to fully utilize the new ERP software.

    The only "hybrid" solution we want is to use features such as SQL stretch database for cold data storage (if we feel data manageability and size becomes an issue couple of years down the line), and easier interaction with the cloud services (Cortana Analytics Suite), everything else should be available locally.

    So I know that the On Premises AX7 is dependant on Azure Stack and with this not coming out till mid 2017, a true on premise AX7 will second half of 2017, I have made my peace with this :-)

    But....I believe the Private Cloud version can also run in Azure IaaS and my understanding is that it shouldn't be dependant on Azure Stack as Azure IaaS has this stuff all baked in already.  Is this correct?  Does anyone know when the Private Cloud AX7 which can run in Azure IaaS might be available?

    Very worried about this topic as well! A little more clarity would be much appreciated.

    Hello shammyowens,

    I understand the same as you.  The next configuration of AX7 to be made available is supposed to be the one running on Azure IaaS.  No AzureStack required.  Last time I checked (a couple of weeks ago), there was no detailed information available as far as availability and licence mapping for existing customers.  The information that was published a few months ago announced a second half of 2016 availability.

    Good luck.

    @Denis,

    The roadmap for AX7 has been changed. This is due to the delay of Azure Stack which is different from the Windows Azure Pack.

    So the second half of 2016 is not valid anymore. In October 2016 more will be announced like Pepijn mentioned above.

    @André,

    Are you saying that AX7 on Azure IaaS (no private cloud or on-premise) is also pushed back to mid 2017?  My understanding was that this option did not require Azure Stack since it will run on Azure itself.

    Thank you.

    Denis
