Multi-AOS environment ... anyone in charge?

Hello,

We have a 4-AOS AX clustered environment so sessions are load balanced. We run the batch server off of AOS3, and all 4 are configured for reporting. I understand the need to cluster and have redundancy across the AOS'es in the event of a single AOS failure. The question I have though is any of these AOS acting as a controller or primary coordinator of sorts across all the instances so that if it went down, the other AOS'es would potentially have issues? If so, are there specific settings / configurations?

Thank you very much!

no, there is not such a thing.

Just make sure that have all your AOS servers in the client configuration.

You also need to load balance web services

You also need to understand that if AOS03 goes down, you need to configure another AOS to be a Batch Server.

If you use NLB for your AOS cluster, do not use Unicast.

    Hi Matt,

The load balance article is interesting as it may shed light on the fact that we're seeing this error ...

Object Server 01:  An error has occurred in the services framework.  Method: AifMessageInspector::AfterReceiveRequest.  Error: System.ServiceModel.FaultException: Failed to logon to Microsoft Dynamics AX.

... on one of our AOS server which also happens to be the first server listed on the configuration. I haven't found an answer to it however.

    Thank you for your input.

You can see that error message for plain security reasons.  Sometimes users don't have required code permissions.

    Hi Brandon,

Yes I agree it's pretty clear what the underlying issue is but I've tried a number of suggestions from restarts and compiles to adding the BC account to AX but none have worked out to date. If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

    Thank you.

A follow up question. Is it possible to force a user and all its worker sessions to stay on a specific server rather than be load balanced across all the AOS servers?

I never tried, but have you checked this:

Thanks Matt. I have not see these options before. I will give it a go.

    Hello DHeisman,

Well you can play around Microsoft Dynamics AX Configuration Utility and Clustering!

I presume you have one client config with Connection as AOS1,AOS2,AOS3 and AOS4 and all are in AOS Cluster1 and AOS3 ticked as "Batch AOS".

If yes then AOS1 is primary and if this fails, client connection will go to AOS2 and So on.

Best option can be have two client config with AOS1,2,3 as Connection and in one Cluster and one client Config as Batch with AOS4.

Normally if one AOS1 goes down, connection will got AOS2 or AOS3.

so basically you will have Load Balancing at Client config level (to maintain the redundancy)   and cluster will also work as Load Balancing.

    Hope this helps.
