Currently we are using AX 2012 R2 CU8 with SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU5. I want to update my SQL to SP3 or latest CU of SQL SP2.Can someone share the compatibility matrix of AX with SQL? I had a look on 'Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 System Requirements' doc but want to make sure.

    Hi Humayun,

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 System Requirements document says:

Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 is supported with the following updates:

    • Cumulative update 9 for AX 2012 R2
    • Cumulative update 10 for AX 2012 R3

So AX 2012 R2 CU8 is clearly not supported and I don't see any reason not to believe this document.

In that case which SQL SP2 CU I can apply in my current configuration.  I am running AX 2012 R2 CU8 with SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU5. latest SQL 2012 SP2 CU is 16.

    It says:

Service Pack 2 with Cumulative Update 2 or later (support.microsoft.com/.../2983175) for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 is supported with the following updates:

    • Cumulative update 7 for AX 2012,
    • Cumulative update 7 for AX 2012 R2
    • AX 2012 R3

So probably any CU for SP2

So it means SQL 2012 SP2 CU 2 or later is supported with AX 2012 R2 CU 7 and later?

I’m confused, which one is right:

    Sql 2012 SP2 supports AX 2012 CU7 or higher?

    Or

    Sql 2012 SP2 supports AX 2012 CU8 or lower?

    Hi,

you have to read the 'other' way:

    We are speaking of Ax2012R2

If you want to use SQL2012SP3(CUxxxxx)

you should have CU9(at least) on Ax2k12R2 side.

If you want to use SQL2012SP2(CUxxxxx)

you should have CU7(at least) on Ax2k12R2 side.

    According this,

SQL2012SP2(latestCU) should be OK, SP3 not.

    regards Douglas

But if I have AX2012 CU8, what version of sql should I have to  use?

    AX2012 R3 CU8 is supported with SQL server 2014 SP1, but not SP2.
